Shawn Jalal is a young keeper, from Baghdad. He starts of at Peterborough and is extremely good for a League Two side. Like many lower league goalkeepers, his stats are hardly going to rival that of Edwin van Der Sar, however, he can work wonders for a leaky defence. He'll be able to hold on to 90% of shots again as his Handling is at 13 which is rather good for a player in League Two. Sadly, SI have got him spot on in the game, and just like in real life, his kicking is absolutely dire at 5. Another few weak points are his poor one on one's and his communication, which can lead to a bit of confusion in the box.
But, away from his poor points, let's keep focused on why he's a great keeper. With great reflexes and even better agility, he'll be able to get to shots which any other keeper in the league could never dream of even getting near. He is a consistent performer, never letting his concentration slip and, though he's aggressive, he'll rarely bring a man down in the box. What gives Jalal the edge over other keepers, is his positioning. He'll be exactly where you need him, and this gives him the upper hand when saving shots.
Now onto what really matters, how he performs when it comes down to it. As a massive Peterborough fan, it was only right to be Peterborough on Football Manager. After choosing my outfield team rather easily, it was left to the two keepers. After much staring at both their stats, and giving them a Friendly each, I came to the conclusion I'll play Jalal. And what a decision that was. Jalal never ceased to amaze me when he played for me. He constantly put in an average rating of 8.78 and, on two occasions, received a rating of 10. Without him, I would have leaked a lot more goals. His confidence was sky high, and I was dreading the January transfer window, knowing full well a League One club would be in for him. But when it came, to my surprise, it was Sunderland, who put in a £300,000 bid for him. With a hint of sadness, I accepted. One year later, he was Sunderland's No.1 and even had a few Iraq caps under his belt.
Real Life
Shwan Jalal was born in Baghdad, Iraq before moving to Hastings, England. He played for his local side before Tottenham Hotspur snapped him up after they scouted him. However, he didn't play a single game for Spurs and he went to Woking on loan. He became an instant hit with both the fans and the management. He put in top quality performances week in, week out gaining numerous Man of Match awards. After his loan period ended he returned to Spurs, however, he still could not get a place in the side and he went back to Woking, this time signing on a permanent basis. He appeared for England National Side XI, which gives Non-League players the chance to represent their country at International level. After 85 appearances for Woking, he moved on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, but didn't play any games. He returned to Woking, before signing for Peterborough United. After an extremely poor start for Peterborough, he is now challenging the legendary Mark Tyler for the No.1 spot. He was outstanding in the recent win against Championship side Southampton. You've certainly not heard the last of this man.
Verdict
Shwan Jalal is a decent player for any League Two or League One side. He's one of those players whose stats don't look too impressive but really shine when it counts. A definite purchase if you need to sort out your dreadful goal record. He comes cheap too, and if you're looking to make a profit on anyone, he'll certainly make you a few bob. Give the man a chance, and he'll return the favor with a healthy looking trophy cabinet.
