Here you can find a review of the brand new graphics found in Football Manager 2008.
FM2008 Graphics review.
I have started my first ever Football Manager 2008 game today, with Betis, in the Spanish La Liga. I have reviewed the graphics, and they are alot better than last years.
Skin:-
I have read alot of criticism on the scene since the FM2008 demo was released, and I hated it aswell. However, upon the games arrival this morning, and my first game, the skin suddenly has grown on me.
I think SportsInteractive deserve a bit of credit for trying something new. We've had similar, green and blue skins every year, since the FM series was created, and spun off from CM, however, this year they have tried something new.
The sleekness, and smoothness of the easy-on-the-eye white based skin is certainly a hit in my eyes.
I love the navigation under tha titlebar, you can acess anything from thos elittle pictures, you rplayer screen, the board room, the news screen, your tactics, your fixture list and so much more, and is alot better than last years navigation overall.
However, my only dislike is the fact that the SITV is also, completely white. And I think another major colour was needed.
FM2007 Flexion: Bland, boring, same as all the years before, colour wise, and I needed to download a skin as soon as I bought it.
5/10
FM2008 skin: Navigation is top class, brilliant colours, and brilliant work.
8/10.
Faces:-
This year, SI's supposedly "Ground-breaking" technology of FaceGen was introduced. The fetaure was seen on SI's EHM and OOTPB last season, and the new feature is supposedly going to be a big hit. After briefly looking through my Betis players team profiles, I really can't see them? I'm not really sure about what they are, as all the facepacks look like actual photos to me. :S
But, as far as the facepacks go, there are far more players with them this year. Lats season, I remember only a couple of players from each Spanish team had them, but this seaosn, my whole Betis team practically, posses a picture of themselves.
The major downfall however, is that some of the faces, block the teams logo's on the profile screens.
FM2007 faces: 7/10
FM2008: 8/10 so far, seeing as the amount of players that have them is good. If the FaceGen is a hit, it'll probably become a 9.
Logo's and Titlebars:
This year, my favourite part of the game, graphically wise, are the logos and titlebars. I love the titlebars.
They have a picture of the stadium on the Box Cover in the right of them, and in Spain, the La Liga logo is looking really nicely cut and is well placed.
On my game, my betis logo is in the middle of the betis logo again. But the one on the outside is bigge,r and faded. It creates a brilliant effect in my opinion.
I also like the flags on the team screen's. Plus, on the EURO Cup fixtures, there is a map of Europe on the titlebar.
FM2007: 6/10
FM2008: 9/10 because of the improvements made above.
Overall:-
FM2007 In-Game Graphics: 7/10. They were good last year, but the skin and facepacks let it down if I'm honest.
FM2008: All the new graphical features are outstanding. They all come together nicely, and have made me give FM2008's graphics so far, an average 8/10. Which is better than 07.
