Background
Gerard Pique is mainly a central defender who is currently playing for Man Utd. He has had his first real taste of first team experience last season when he was loaned out to Real Zaragoza with playing twenty games in total, without finding the back of the net once. He made his first appearance with Manchester United on 26 October 2004 against Crewe Alexandra. He has also played for the Spanish U17 and U19 teams. Pique was a member of the Spanish under 19 side that won the Uefa Under-19 Championship on 29 July. Pique has being tipped to be another one of the great players that Man Utd have produced over the years. It is believed that Sir Alex is looking to blood him in more and more first team games this season, as his future always looks promosing. With his first competitive return from Real Zaragoza against Everton this season and produced a solid performance.
What Is He Like On FM?
No doubt his strongest position is in the centre of defense but if you want a good young defensive minded midfielder there are none that will suit the role just as he would. His ability is there for all to see, even at such a young age the ability to play in the premiership for any side is there aswell. He can play in either central defence or central midfield in the premiership straight away without putting a foot wrong. He may not score tons but he has the ability to pop up with three or four a season from corners, or maybe even more if ou give him the oppurtunity to get forward for free kicks and such. If you are Man Utd i would not let him go as in first season he will be very key to backup incase you get a big injury list like Man Utd unfortuantely have at the minute in real life.
Strengths
For such a young guy, he has a great head on his shoulders and the physique of him is absolutly brilliant, his all round physique is great for a centre back. Not often do you find a defender with such great stamina and fitness who will dominate strikers in the air all day long. His positioning is faultless aswell, and will help him all the time as he is rarely out of position at all. His heading ability is absolutely brilliant, he will not miss a header all day, and will pop up in the opponents box all the time and will cause their defense a lot of problems. He is also a vrey strong man. He will not get pushed off that ball if you stick him in midfield and he can easily win that ball of any strong, tall defender, no-one will phase him when he is playing. He is also very good at marking as you would expect most defenders to be, if you need a player to man mark one of the opponents strikers he would be ideal fort hat and he will not let them have a sniff in the game, and this does create a big gap in the opponents armoury.
Weaknesses
Well for a defensive player he has no real main weakness in the game at all but his tackling could be better but with time he can improve on that, and it will come with more maturity, and if you get him on a decent training program you should be able to work on this. His finishing is very weak but for a denfeder you don't expect this but this is one thing that may hamper him playing in midfield, which is why i would always advise playing him in defence. If you do decided to stick him into your midfield one thing that can let him down is his creativity. He finds it hard to open up defences back doors with good passes. He will hamper you going forward, and he will not find the service to the striker, unlike a player like Carrick, who will get great service to both of them.
Overall
Overall he is a very talented individual, who will have the world at his feet one day, and he can be yours for around 8 million i have found. I would recommend anyone signing him if you can afford it, as he has the talent to go a long long way in this business. So if you are a premiership team needing a decent centre back or a centre back for the future, he is the ideal candidate, he will give you everything never mind wether he is upfront or in midfield.
