Find out everything you need to know about Cristian Chivu in Football Manager 2008.
Cristian Chivu was born on October 26, 1980 in Romania, in Resita. He began his career at his local club, CSM Resita, but only after a year, he moved to First Division outfit, Universitatea Craiova. Here, his reputation began to rise and the major European clubs started showing there interest in the young Defender.
The club, who finally managed to sign him was Ajax Amsterdam. Under the guidance of Ronald Koeman, alongside players like Rafael van der Vaart, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Ahmed Hossam Mido, and Andy van der Meyde, Ajax dominated the Dutch Eredivisie. Chivu got appointed as captain, and he played a major role in Ajax's impressive Champions League run, in season 2002/2003, when the Dutch were within a minute of the Semi-Finals.
Debt-ridden AS Roma were the club, who firstly expressed their interest in the Romanian and after a long and dramatic saga, they finally managed to sign him in 2003. The transfer fee was thought to be around €18mil. Chivu played more then 100 matches for the Romans, scoring 6 goals.
He spent 4 years in the capital of Italy and after more then 2 months of speculations, he put pen to paper, for a move to Inter in the Summer of 2007. Clubs like Real or Barca were also interested in him, but he preferred to stay in Seria A.
Cristi Chivu is one of the best Defenders in real life and in the game as well. His Potential Ability of 182 can surely indicate this fact. His CA is 168 so he can improve in the future. He can turn from good to excellent. He will definitely be a great choice, if you are looking for a Central Defender, or for a Left Full-Back as well.
At the beginning of the game, his value is $22mil. Don't forget, that Inter just snapped him up, so it will be virtually impossible for you to buy him in the first year. He is highly ambitious, so you may have the opportunity to get him in the 2nd or 3th season. His contract will expire in 2012, but he will be 31 then. My tip is to try to unsettle him with a big team and you may be lucky enough to sign him.
The most important thing about Chivu's personality in the game is his Leadership. Where ever he is, he would be one of the best choices for the Captaincy role. He is also very Professional but Spirited.
Positions and Training
In my opinion, Cristian Chivu plays best a Left Fullback. In real life, ha may be used more as a Central Defender or a Defensive Midfielder, but in the game your best bet with him is to play him on the Left flank. He could also be employed as a Left Wing Back, this way giving him more options in attack. Fullbacks must be good at defending, as well as at attacking so he is definitely one of the best for this position on the game. His attributes are very well balanced.
He is already a developed player and he will reach his potential in a very short time. Make sure you don't overload him with training, but also make sure that he improves his defensive attributes. For a Fullback he needs to be quick and agile, so the make the Aerobic category an important one in his training regime.
Strengths
Cristian Chivu is a very intelligent player. His Mental attributes are very high, so it is easy to say that he will be very reliable in the game. He is very determined as well.
Another thing that you can observe is that the Romanian is very good when it comes to hitting the ball. His passing is good, plus his Free kicks are also a big hit. He scored many goals at Roma, Ajax or at the National team from Set Pieces.
Free Kicks 16, Passing 16, Composure 16, Determination 19, Positioning 16
Weaknesses
Chivu is a player, who has very few weaknesses. As I stated it before, his attributes are very well balanced, he won't disappoint you on any aspect of the game.
His only visible weakness can be considered his inability the throw the ball. This is a pretty important attribute for a Fullback, and the Romanian lacks in this capitol.
If you decide to use him as a Centre Back, you may also notice that he isn't the best in the World, when it comes to Marking or Tackling.
Long Throws 10, Concentration 11, Marking 15, Tackling 15, Natural Fitness 11
If you are lucky enough to snap Chivu up, you surely won't regret it. He looks to be a very good player even at the start of the game, plus he will even improve in the future. Use him as a Centre Back, a Defensive Midfielder, or as a Fullback, you won't regret it! He is a World Class player, without a doubt.
