Crusaders FC, are one of a number of teams that could win the league. Of the 16 teams in the League, Crusaders and maybe 3 others are strong chances of winning the league. With the purchase of one or two players for key positions, this team gets very strong.
The media predicts a 8th place at the end of the season. The expectations of the board and the supporters is to finish in a respectable position within a 2 year plan. They would prefer a respectable finish this year as well. This places some pressure on you as the manager, but you have a side that can easily obtain a respectable position.
You start off with two goalkeepers in your squad. Your best goalkeeper is 26yo Greg Shannon, who has some good stats, but also some rather poor ones. His Eccentricity(6) combines well with his One on Ones(16) and Reflexes(15). His backup is 24yo Aaron Kerr. He needs to be replaced as soon as possible. With his high Eccentricity(18), he will let through lots of goals.
Best Goalkeeper: Greg Shannon
You have 7 players that can play as defenders in the squad. The best DR you have is 23yo David Magowan. His backup will be 17yo Youth contracted Irish DC Colin Murray. This is a position you really need another player for. Colin Murray is not good enough yet, and David Magowan is only good enough as a backup. Your starting DL should be 21yo Colin Coates. He will also be the backup for the DC players. His backup will be 24yo Stephen McBride. Your best DC is 26yo Andrew Hunter, who is a well rounded player, who will compete with the best of them in this League. Your other DC will be 37yo Glentoran loanee Gary Smyth. He is another player that is more than competitive at this level. The backup for these guys, as stated before will be 21yo Colin Coates. I would seriously look at dropping 20yo Martin Reilly back to Reserve Grade, or loan him out to get experience.
Best Defender: Andrew Hunter
In the MR slot, the best player is 19yo Ryan Tumelty. His backup will be 28yo Garth Walsh. Ryan Tumelty is definitely the better of the two. In the ML position your best player is 33yo Darren Lockhart. He is going to lay the foundation for your midfield. The backup for his position will be 27yo Alain Emerson. He is not bad, and will certainly hold his own when called upon. The first MC I would pick however is 33yo Eamonn Doherty. Playing alongside him, I would go with 21yo MC Chris Morrow, who will go from strength to strength as the season/s progress. Off the bench, you have your backup ML in 27yo Alain Emerson.
Best Midfielder: Darren Lockhart
In the strike force you have 1 ST and 3 AM that can double as strikers. Your best ST is 29yo Davy Larmour. His stats are fantastic for this level of competition, with Finishing(14), Work Rate(14) and Determination(18). Beside him I would play 23yo AM R/ST Stevie Coultier. His Finishing(8) isn’t good, but his Composure(12), and First Touch(11) aren’t bad. Off the bench I would be playing 31yo AM L/ST David Rainey. The other AM will be used in the Midfield.
Best Striker: Davy Larmour
You have some young players that would benefit from being sent out on loan, but none that really should be sold except Aaron Kerr the backup GK. Sell off your Reserve Grade players that don’t make the grade, to bring your Wage Budget down.
You need a good GK, and a good DR. Once you have filled these two positions, it really is up to you whether you persist with what you have or buy in any more. Other than that, you always have some good Youth coming through the Academy and Youth Squad.
GK - Greg Shannon
DR - David Magowan
DL - Colin Coates
DC - Andrew Hunter
DC - Gary Smyth
MR - Ryan Tumelty
ML - Darren Lockhart
MC - Eamonn Doherty
MC - Chris Morrow
SC - Davy Larmour
SC - Stevie Coultier
This team is a good team to start with if this is your first outing in this League, as they are a genuine contender. Good Luck and I hope this Team Guide has helped.
