Background
George Ian Boyd is an English footballer, currently playing for Peterborough United as a striker, left winger and a central midfielder but his favoured position is left wing really as he is naturally left footed. He was affectionatley known to Stevenage Borough fans as 'the White Pele' and since his recent move to Peterborough United, that name still stands even with his new club, his great ability on the ball in the lower leagues has earned him that name. Boyd's early football was played in the Medway Towns, beginning with Bredhurst Boys before stepping up to the county level playing for Chatham Town in the Kent League. Boyd joined Peterborough United on January 8, 2007 for a Conference-record transfer fee of £260,000 from Stevenage Borough, beating the £250,000 that Wimbledon paid for Andy Clarke. Boyd scored his first goal for Peterborough United in the League Two fixture against Wrexham on 10th February, 2007, a game which Peterborough went on to win 3-0. His ability has got him a long way in the game and he has being linked with a lot of bigger clubs and would it not be a dream come true to see him play at the top coming through from non league and it would be great. Personally i would leave to see him play for Hull City, and he really does remind me in the way that he plays of Stuart Ellliot.
On FM
On FM i have played with him at about seven different clubs and i still have struggled to find his best position. As never mind him playing upfront, on the left or in the centre you can retrain him in about a month to play on the right wing, this versatility reall has brough me to fall in love with him, and he really does have that talent to play at te highest level i believe. His ability in legaue two is their to see he has more talent than anyone in league two and probably most of league one, he just hsa that natural ability. His final ball and his finishing ability is brilliant. He will get you goals out of the blue, he will shoot from anywhere. He can produce that final ball that does make him brilliant. If you play him on the wing which for me is his best position he will really get some great crosses in. If you can get some top class strikers upfront ahead of him they will easily get twenty goals each, but don't shoot me if they don't. His partnership that he created for me and in real life with Aaron Mclean is unbelieveable, him upfront and Boyd supporting him it was just unbelieveable to watch, Mclean scored thirty two goals in the first season. George Boyd can play in the Championship there is no doubt in that but for me his ability is deffinately Premiership class.
Strengths
His main strength is his great dribbling ability, the way he is so confident on the ball and the way he just takes it past so many players with ease is unbelieveable. In league two his lack of pace is not a problem with his great brilliance on the ball he can take it past three playters woith ease and he can just ghost into them positions with the ball at his foot, even if he didnt have the great crossing ability the amount of positions he gets into means that he has so many oppurtunities he must take one. I could not talk about his strengths without mentioning his great passing ability, he can find people with ease he has the ability to see the movement of players with such ease, never mind that his ability to get it to them with such ease and the right pace and so on is just brilliant, this is one reason why i feel he would be good in the centre of the midfield. Also his great ability with shooting from long distance, is brilliant, if you give him time in the midfield and space to run into he has the ability to run into it and take the players on but with his great ability to shoot from long range he could easily score from there, i have seen him ping around three to five goals a season in from around thirty yards out with ease. His first touch is another thing that sees them set apart from most of the players in league two, you will not find a player with better technical ability in league one or league two than him, he will be able to have that extra time on the ball, that pace doesnt really matter when you have that first touch and technique.
Weakness
His main weakness is his terrible defensive ability. First of all i think that his worst piece of his defending and his tackling is his main weakness defensivelym the amount of times that you will see him tracking back, and any time that you see him tracking back then the players on his time will really be panicking, every time i saw him tracking back i was praying to jesus. He can not tackle even if it is the clumpsiest centre back i have ever seen. Also his pace may not be that of a striker, but for me he makes up for his pace with his great ability on the ball and his first touch, this is something that is not the easiest thing to improve on, but for me i think he does not need it unless maybe he does make it to the premiership. Also for me i would prefer my striker to have better decision making but unfortunately George does not have this but maybe this is something that could come with age, and experience.
Conclusion
For me i see George Boyd as the type of player that would play great on the left wing for any side outside of the Premiership and i feel if he is going to play in the preiership he may need to improve his physical and mental stats, as their is no doubt that his technical ability is amongst the best players outside the Premiership. For me he is one of the bargains the English leagues has, as he is a bargain at two hundred and fifty thousand pounds which si what you can get him for.
