Almeria plays a defensive 4-4-2 formation at away games, and balanced 4-4-2 in home
games. Nevertheless, in both occasions they’re trying to keep possession at the back, usually by bringing a defensive midfielder into the midfield position such as Roberto and
Felipe Melo. I found out that by bringing a fast attacking midfielder (such as Valdo or
Coro) you can press them to their goal, and exploit vulnerable defensive weaknesses
such as their defense slowness and defenders relatively low mental attributes such as
decisions and team-work.
They seldom use a 4-3-3 formation, looking to hit their opponents through counter-
attacks. In these rare cases it’s important to pay extra notice to the type of players that
play on the wings, for example: Kalu Uche’s dribbling and speed makes him a real threat in counter attacks unlike Dos Santos, who has more emphasize on the passing play.
Strengths:
+ Matias Vidangossy (FC) dribbling, and finishing makes him a difficult player to face.
His preferred moves also serve his characteristic as a player with ‘Tries Tricks’ and
‘Likes to Beat Man Repeatedly’.
+ Jose Ortiz (FC) assists giving. He has 18 and 17 in passing and creativity,
respectively. Combined with his preferred moves ‘Tries Killer Balls Often’ and ‘Looks
for Pass Rathar Than Attempting to Score’, he’s deadly.
+ Their goalkeeper, Diego (Diego Alves) is absolutely fantastic so make sure you don’t
give him easy chances to pick up, as Almeria is the perfect candidate for the super-
goalkeeper syndrome.
Weaknesses:
- Vulnerable for pace attacks, especially centre-backs and right back.
- Looking to keep possession at the back, making their defensive line under heavy
pressure once possession’s lost.
Transfers-In: Roberto (on loan from Celta)
Transfers-Out: Escorize (free-transfer), Sergio Ortiz (on loan at Roquetas), Juanjo
Pinto (on loan at Roquetas)
