Right this is another one of these i’ll sit up late have a few drinks and see what comes into my head style articles. Well these seem to be my calling. It’s currently 2:53 am and im sitting in my living room on the laptop with a nice chilled Kopparberg Pear Cider leaning against the arm of the setee. Im listening to the Queen and Paul Rodgers CD on my surround sound DVD player, Although it isn’t actually Queen because how can they be Queen without Freddie Mercury?!?!? I’m now sitting thinking what am I going to speak about in this article.
I may start to discuss about how crap my night in work was, where I had an elderly woman complain that there wasn’t enough choice of cereals for her. It was very hard not to laugh due to the fact that; 1. I passed myself of to be the Store Manager, 2. That there is a wall of cereals about the length of a football pitch behind her as she is complaining and 3. that she had more hair on her chin than me, and I’m in the early stages of growing a beard. However I think that im going to discuss my new found love for Football Manager.
Yes like the rest of you I grew tired of playing it. I had played that much that I managed to get Accrington Stanley promoted to the Premiership. My greatest achievement in my “management” history.
Only a few days ago I thought I’d re-install FM08, to my surprise I didn’t actually un-install it. Thank god I didn’t commit the most deadly sin of a Football Manager Addict. I searched around trying to find the disc. Ahhhhh at last I found the case of the game, I opened the case. NO GAME INSIDE. I started to panic, the third love of my life was lost. I searched frantically around my computer in all seven towers of disc’s that surrounded my PC like some futuristic city. It wasn’t there. Would I really need to go in the car and buy another copy of the game?
I’d not played it for months why was I so bothered that it wasn’t anywhere to be found. I kept looking around. I searched in the cases of all my games still nothing. I even discovered that Halo had gone missing as well. Had the two disc’s somehow formed a relationship and ran away with each other to create some weird mini disc? Well no, disc’s can’t actually mate. I kept searching and kept looking around, in boxes and in drawers where the hell had they ran away to? Alas I forgot that my PC had a secret passage, where anything disc shaped and sized, or with a hole 20mm could fit. I opened the hatch to find none other that Harry Potter sitting inside my computer. On no that’s the cupboard under my stairs. The disc’s were that snuggly fixed in the hatch. I was so relieved, I found my porn stash, as well as FM08.
I slotted the disc in the drive and loaded it up. I thought to myself ”right I need to make the game look different” the last skin I used was a bit old. So I went about downloading the new Blue Horizon skin. All downloaded, I installed it into the correct folder. I reloaded the game and proceeded straight to the preferences screen where I set Blue Horizon as my new skin. It looked amazing even though it was only the introduction screen. I decided I was bored with all my saved games, so its best I start a new game.
I loaded up the Argentinian, Brazilian, South Korean, English and Scottish Leagues
as my new database. But who was I going to play as?
Time for a challenge. I thought I’m going to sign players that have played for my favourite team that have moved on to other teams. My only problem is my favourite team are Dundee and they are in administration at the start of the game. Time for some divine intervention. I’d heard of the FM Modifier but thought it was blasphemous to ever use it due to it’s cheating capabilities. What the hell FM09 will be out in a few months I might as well enjoy FM08 while I can. I searched around a few sites and finally found a version that was compatable with the latest update from SI. I compiled my shortlist;
I loaded it up, searched for Dundee and gave myself the biggest amount of money any club can ever get on the game. Something in the hundred of millions if I remember correctly. Time get my player search on the go.

Fabian Caballero, Nacho Novo, Gavin Rae, Lee Wilkie, Julian Speroni, Brent Sancho, Lee Mair, Barry Smith, Zurab Kizanishvilli and Robbie Raeside.
To be honest that is all I could remember until I dug out the old sticker albums (where the hell has Ibrahim Ba gone? I loved the fact he had dyed blonde hair). I must admit it was harder that I thought to sign all the players. Some refused due to just signing for a club. How could I get them to sign? hmm lets change the date of their contract on the FM Modifier so that its expired and they are a free agent. My short list was complete they were all signed. I spent a total of £25 Million with another £800 Million left to spend on transfers. I bought all the best coaches with the most ridiculous wage packets imaginable, twenty odd thousand here twenty odd thousand there, all so that i could improve my squad through training. I am now half a season into my new Dundee career sitting firmly atop the Scottish First Division. What have I learnt from this? Well all I can say is even cheating is a fun way to play FM. Why not try it yourself you will be pleasantly surprised.
