In Real Life
He began his career at a Peruvian team called Universitario de Deportes, before moving onto Colón de Santa Fe in Argentina. He made 53 appearances, scoring 6 goals, adding to his 8 goals in 69 appearances at Universitario. This bought him to the attention of bigger clubs, and in August 2006 he received offers from Calcio Catania, the Italian side, and Portsmouth, of the Premiership. He chose to sign for Catania, and has played 43 games, scoring 4 goals. This impressive record meant that he was soon called up to the Peruvian national team. He's made 15 appearances, scoring 4 goals. Awesome for a defender really. At the end of his first season in Italy, he received a €4,000,000 offer from Roma, and Barcelona, Juventus, Portsmouth and Liverpool all expressed an interest in him. However, he stayed at Catania.

A South American who's not Brazilian or Argentinian, and has decent stats? Surely not. Vargas will most likely only show up if you load all players from Peru, but he's quality. He is an all rounder, anywhere you want him to play in your own half, that's on the left hand side, he will play there, fairly well.
Strengths
His Passing is 15, which is exceptional for a defender. As a Wing Back, a high passing stat is recommended, as it means he won't waste his runs forward. He will be able to pass it all over the park, which will come in very useful when either clearing the ball from a corner or whatever, or when making surging runs forward. He will be able to play one-twos with the left midfielder whilst attacking. This Passing stat is complemented well by his Crossing of 18. This is really useful, because when he attacks down the wing, he will be able to ping the ball into the box. This frees up the Left Midfielder to be another man in or around the box.
His Determination is 16. This means that he has all the tenacity that is required for someone who is going to be running backwards and forwards between the two ends of the pitch. He won't stop chasing down balls or people until he catches them. His Off the Ball of 14 means that when he doesn't have possession, he will be always looking to get into positions to either receive the ball when attacking, or to regain possession when defending.
His Pace and Acceleration are both 15, which means that he will be very handy when it comes to getting to and from opposite ends of the pitch. This is very useful as it means he will be able to keep up with counter attacks. His Stamina is 16, which means that he should be able to keep it up for the whole game. Finally, his Natural Fitness of 17 means that he will not lose his Pace or Acceleration over time.
Weaknesses
As a defender, Tackling and Marking are very important. However, Vargas doesn't really have incredible stats in either. Both are at 12, which, whilst above average, aren't that good. Think more Wayne Bridge than Ashley Cole. Whilst he will be useful when defending, don't have him take care of the most important player on their team. Also, his Heading of 7 means that he won't be much use when defending corner kicks. He is probably best positioned just outside the Penalty Area-he will then be able to make a break if the ball runs out to him. His Finishing is only 8. This means that he won't be very good at hitting the back of the net-he will probably be more likely to hit the supporter in Row H instead.
As for non-physical stats, his Anticipation is low, at 9. This means that he will be quite poor at intercepting passes. This is quite bad for a Wing Back-a good WB will be able to intercept the ball and then use it to start a counter attack. His Concentration is only 10. This means that he won't be able to pay attention during the whole game. His Positioning is only 10 too, which means that he won't always be stood in the right place during things like Corners and Free Kicks. Finally, his Jumping is only 8. This means that he will be no use during Corners if put in the box.
Conclusion
My rating for this player is 7/10 . He is already established. He already has fairly decent stats, and so is going to be a decent signing for any mid table Premiership side who need a new utility left sided player. He would even be a fantastic back up signing for one of the bigger teams in the world. He shouldn't struggle with a work permit, and so will be a decent signing if you can get him for less than £5 million. His CA is only 125, and his PA is 168, which means that there is plenty of time for him to develop as a player. This means that he could become world class.
