The recent departures of Alan Curbishley from West Ham and Kevin Keegan leaving Newcastle have highlighted a new way of doing football. The role of the Premiership manager is changing, less of a manager now and to more of toward the head coach. This is nothing new to the world of football, but instead only new to English football. This system where by we have a director of football who is making all the big management decisions like who will be the next strikers while the head coach will be picking the tactics and playing those players how he sees fit and dealing with the day-to-day running of the football squad. But this is becoming more of a trend in our league as big money foreign investment comes into the Premiership. Chairmen want to know that their money is safe and they have a man acting on their behalf to bring players in and giving him more control in the process. But how can Football Manager deal with this? fm2008:site:3683 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=228 The Life of A Pro: An Interview with a Professional FM Gamer http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3680 Sat, 13 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Lilac0r delves deep into the realms of the football manager's obsessive disorder as he steps foot into a professional FM gamer's basement. There's a new sport in the horizon, and nobody cares if you're fat, ugly, dumb or unfit here. In a server basement somewhere in Germany a group of future athletes are training hard while they wait for a new era. You've probably once or twice in your life seen athletes, football players or horses in the Olympics and thought: I wish I was that good in a sport. But then you realize that you are too old, unfit and perhaps also too dumb to start becoming a sports athlete. But as I've recently found out, there's still a hope for you. There's a new sport in the horizon, and nobody cares if your fat, ugly, dumb or unfit here. In a server basement somewhere in Germany a group of future athletes are training hard while they wait for a new era. An era of professional FM players. I've literally gone underground to find more about this odd community. And for the first time ever, I've also been lucky enough to get an interview with one of the founding fathers of this community, who wants to remain anonymous. fm2008:site:3680 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=205 Getting The Most From Pre-season in Football Manager http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3675 7 Fri, 05 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC This article explains how to get the most out of your clubs pre-season in FM2008, so that you're well prepared for the season ahead. fm2008:site:3675 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=168 How I play Football Manager http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3674 0 Fri, 05 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Well we’re all play Football Manager a different way with things, it could be as simple as different options like Pounds instead of Dollars or auto save turned off but we all have our own unique way of playing the game. Well hopefully, I’ll give you some tips from my and others experiences of going from zero to hero and turning your club around and improving your managerial skills and ability and hopefully in the long term either get the club up the leagues or get a better job. First thing to do when you take over is to check the bank balance, debts and other financial figures, even if you’re in positive figures, it’s still worth just making sure you’re in good shape. Now of course there is a difference between, being just a few thousands in debt and being hundreds of thousands. fm2008:site:3673 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=166 Why Si Cannot Win With Their Match Engine http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3671 5 Fri, 05 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Disclaimer: I do not by any means consider myself a tactical expert or any FM expert. Switzerland and Austria were good hosts, even if they never got to impress the pundits with their football. I suppose that is a good thing as well, as it just shows that the referees finally learned something from the South Korea example. Of course, there were enough teams to impress us.. Portugal and Holland started their quest for glory in style and basically Europe started chanting their names. Other teams, such as Russia, Turkey or Germany, had a less impressive start, yet they found the pace and managed remarkable things. Of course, there was a constant team, who impressed, yet managed to keep form throughout the whole tournament and eventually clinched a deserved title. Supporters often got from ecstasy to agony, thanks to 22 men, who most of the times did everything to make EURO08, a show. An event to enjoy! Well the goal of this review is presenting players who impressed me and I am sure that every supporter generally. I will not be presenting known stars, such as Sneijder, Torres, Modric, Akinfeev or Arshavin, I will be just concentrating on less-known players, who reached stardom thanks to EURO2008. fm2008:site:3670 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=163 Managing your Training Schedules in FM2008 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3668 2 Fri, 05 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Here is a complete guide to one of the older features in the football management sims - here I'll uncover some secrets (because I am now the unofficial King of football manager), and I'll even explain why managing your training schedule is perhaps a lot less hassle then you thought. fm2008:site:3668 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=156 What Football Manager 08 taught me about Steve McClaren and England http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3667 Fri, 05 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Ahmed Bilal of Soccerlens takes an interesting look back at his weekend romp with Football Manager 2008 and compares his experiences with those of Steve McClaren's and finds out what it really takes to manage the English national team. fm2008:site:3667 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=155 What makes up Manager Reputation in Football Manager http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3666 6 Fri, 05 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Morridin gives us the low down on the in-game mechanics that affect manager reputation in football manager 2008 . Recently I was asked a question, that question is here: "A few of my players are world class but want to move to a bigger club. They're unhappy. A good loyal player of mine dislikes 4 of my players and others dislike each other too. Should I sell the ones who are disliked no matter how good they are? Will it improve my team if I buy replacements?" Now, I thought about this for a minute and thought of an idea. I wasn't sure if it would work straight away or if it would work at all. I didn't see why you should sell the players of which are disliked, that's unfair on them and also unfair on you, they might be an integral part of your team or a favoured players of yours. So why not, instead try these ideas. fm2008:site:3657 http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=139 Taking a small team to success in Football Manager http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/fm2008directory/site/3656 7 Wed, 03 Sep 2008 23:00:00 UTC Wouldn't you love to just take a team like Brentford and make them the next Manchester United?
