Football Manager - A Simulation or a Reality Assistant?

I’ve had this boiling in my mind for a while now, but what exactly do people see Football Manager as? Is it an easy way for people to relieve what they can’t in reality? Could they finally be bringing back the glory days for their such beloved teams with not much effort, or is it a intricate simulation game where people want to test their tactical knowledge against the AI?
I’ve been there, you’ve probably been there- I think it’s safe to say most people who own a copy of Football Manager have been there- winning the league with little effort with ‘top’ teams such as Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal (Who for some reason have boundless finances on 8.0.2). When I say “not much effort”, I essentially mean those who don’t bother with training, their back room staff, scouts, finances and so on.
From browsing the scene for a couple of years now, I’ve seen countless of people moaning that they’re in debt and not making profit monthly- the answer is pretty simple- being a successful virtual football manager takes more then winning games. I can’t think back when the last time I read about anyone who analyzed their backroom staff and playing staff to see how much wages they were sponging off the club, or the last time I read about someone building their scouting network across the world. It surprises me how much people now rely on programs such as FM Scout to find regens. Scouts weren’t built into the game to boost features, they were built so they could be used properly and unearth gems.
Another issue, which I won’t go into so much detail about because it’s an irritable subject amongst some is tactics. I don’t understand people who download pre-made tactics and then complain that they’re results aren’t up to expectation. If you really want to start fiddling with your own tactics, but you’re scared you’ll get sacked for poor results, then the solution is pretty simple. Find a team with lower expectations. The best advice I’ve been given in awhile is Start off small, aim big. The same could be said for tactics.
I wouldn’t expressly call this a rant- you could argue back and say you don’t want to get so technical, you can play the game how you want and you couldn’t generally give a shit about your scouts etc, but then why spend thirty odd quid on a game where all you do is download a tactic, picking your best starting 11 and hope for the best…I’m sure you could find something similar on mousebreaker.com for free.
