Are you wondering what FM Live's going to be like when its released? If so then this little article will give you a preview of how the official league and cup competitions work in Football Manager Live.
Time to have a proper look at FML as the new season kicks off.
In this part I will look at how does the league structure and cup system work.
So it's back to FML and as one of the beta testers I thought it was time that I gave a guide to how the league and cup structure works in FML - as this is how the main game is played.
When you join FML the first thing you will do is join one of the Federations. These work in a similar way to the federations in the real world - SFA, EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga etc. This is how you participate in leagues and cups.
I'm in a league set up called the DFA - Daytime Football Association - in my game world.

And I, for some unknown reason, play in the Daytime Premier League.

As you can see, it's set to be played between a certain time, all leagues have this set differently - Moonlight Association run between 1900 and 0100 for instance.
This is so you can play the game when you want and at a time that suits you, the DFA is maybe not best for me due to work, but as you can install the game on more than one computer I have it sneakily installed on my Mac at work - great for breaks and lunch!
Anyway, I digress from the game.
The league structure is as you would imagine it in any other FM game - so many teams play each other 2 times with the usual 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw.

Games are played when people are on line, tho there is a chance that as you may be offline for a period, the game may play with the AI for you, selecting your squad and playing the game for you, though this will affect your money you receive at the end of the season. This is to discourage manager from being offline as it defeats the object of the game - Football Manager Live.
As with all leagues, your players will lose fitness, but in FML they regain it quicker as is the same with the injuries, an average injury will last no more than 5-7 days. Still annoying but at least it's not the 10 weeks in FM08.
Even worse - you can be relegated in the Premier League - back down to Division One - this is also affected by the AI games that happen for your team - so the more you have the computer play for you, the worse the chance you have of staying up - as I said above, it's about playing the games yourself!
And as with any good league there is always the league cup. In my league it is the Daytime cup!

Both leagues in the Daytime League join together to play for the pride of our "League Cup" in FML.
Basically everyone plays in the first round, then there is the last 16, quarters, semi's and the final. Bragging rights are lauded when the junior teams beat the the "Big 4" in the Premier League. Same as in real life.
And not only our League Cup - we also take part in the DFA Super Cup - a sort of "Champions League" of sorts.

This sets you up in group stages - like the Champions League - in a ranked tournament - with the better teams getting lower opponents - with the top 2 teams from each group going through to the last 12 in a "super playoffs" style competition.

And as usual, all these competitions have the AI rulings as well - which at the end of the day can affect your "earnings" for the club. And that can affect your players as well!
On top of these league tournaments there is the UFFA cup which pits teams from all the leagues in the FML game against each other - teams you may never have played or seen before!
So that's how FML works in the league structure and cups.
In later posts I will look at the different sections of the FML game and show you how these work.
Cheers for reading and I may - if I do well, update this as my season goes on - but if I have my usual run of previous seasons I may hide under a rock!
