Installing Football Manager 2008 Graphics can be confusing, primarily because SI haven't exactly made it easy, but hopefully this guide should explain to you exactly how to go about getting graphics to work in FM2008.

First off, some of you may have been told in the past to install all your graphics under the FM Installation, however, in FM2008 all of the graphics files have been compressed in .fmf files, this has made things a lot more confusing

Fortunately for us, even before the implementation of .fmf files the best place to put new graphics was in My Documents. However, this is where SI haven't made it very clear. You see there aren't currently any graphics folders under My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008. You should however have; db, games, matches, skins and sounds, plus tactics, screenshots and schedules, these folders don't appear when you first install the game, but are automatically created when you save your tactics, screenshots or schedules.

This gives you a clue to the fact that there are usable folders under My Documents which you can't actually see. This is because SI didn't feel the need to include empty folders there; therefore you're going to have to create these folders. Generally you can call them whatever you like, but it's a good idea to keep things organised.

Installing Graphics, everything except Skins
Got to My DocumentsSports InteractiveFootball Manager 2008 and create the following folders:

1) Create a folder and call it "graphics"
2) Inside the folder called graphics, create four folders entitled "logos", "kits", "facepacks" and "backgrounds".
3) After you've downloaded a graphic pack it will generally be either a ".rar" or a ".zip" you will need to extract this file into the relevant folder (e.g: if its facepacks you've downloaded extract it to the facepacks folder)
4) Go into FM, load up your save game, go to preferences and click the "display and sound" tab.
5) First off, the box "use skin cache" should be ticked, untick it now.
6) Secondly, the box "always reload skin on confirm" should be unticked, tick it.
7) Confirm your changes to the settings and wait for it to load, this could take a few minutes if you're adding a lot of graphics.
8) Your new graphics should now be appearing, go back into the preferences screen and the display and sound tab, and undo what you just did, by ticking the "use skin cache" box and unticking the "always reload skin on confirm" box.

Installing FM2008 Skins
Installing FM2008 Skins is even easier than other graphics, Sports Interactive have very kindly created a 'skins' folder in "My DocumentsSports InteractiveFootball Manager 2008" ready for you, so just extract a skin you've downloaded into that folder and then go to the 'display and sound' tab in preferences and use the drop down box to select which skin you wish to use.

Your graphics should now be working in Football Manager 2008. If you've got any problems or are still struggling please feel free to ask.

Are the graphics you've added configured properly? It may be a problem with the original graphics rather than how you've installed them.

Um... i cant seem to add the logos i downloaded. I have tried ur method already... but i still cant seem to add them.Ok. Here's wat i did.
1. Download the FM2008 superpacks for the EPL logos.
2. go to my documentssports interactivefootball manager 2008
3. Created a new folder called graphics.
4. Inside the folder graphics, i created 4 more folders called backgrounds, kits, logos, facepacks.
5. I followed ur instructions and extract the FM2008 superpacks to documentssports interactivefootball manager 2008graphicslogos
6. Loaded the game.
7. Went to preferences then display and sound.
8. untick "use skin cache" and tick "always reload skin on confirm".
9. Let it load.
10. Did the opposite wit the skin cache thingy.
But...
Still no changes. I would appreciate it if u help me. Thanks.

Did you download this superpack?

This is a resource pack for graphics makers, to help them make graphics. The description the user gave when he uploaded it, should have been clearer and really, I should create a category for resources, so as to stop the confusion, if it was this, then that's why it didn't work.

We have two more EPL packs here at the FM Portal.

The Flag Button Logos
MOTD Ball Logos

There are also logos for lots of other teams in the logos section, in these same styles, if you want to check them out.

Hope this helps

Change the name of the face pack folder to Players.

I know this is a dumb question but did you Unzip the files first?

hi,
I downloaded this massive pack over 2 gigs with skins, pictures and backgrounds, but now football manager runs so slow. i want to turn the skins off and go back to the default, but thats not there anymore and i cant find a way to delete the skins. Everytime i try deleting from the folder the deleting box just stays there for hours, and i cant find a way of deleting off the game. i tried reinstalling bu it kept the same skins there. Would it make it faster by updating to 512mb or 1 gig ram as i have 256mb currently and i would prefer to keep all the extra pics and backgrounds in.

Could somebody give me some advice as I don't really know what I'm doing. I just got the game today and installed a skin using the instructions in the first post, this worked and everything seemed to be working fine. Later today I downloaded a graphics pack and extracted the files into each section using winrar. However I think that this pack may just be a tool to help people who want to create graphics packs or just to edit their own game, which would explain why it won't work.

I just want to get rid of it but everytime I try and delete it a message pops up saying that the file is being used by another program and it won't delete. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it?

You probably had a program running whilst trying to do it, possibly an image viewer, or having the folder open or most probably Football Manager.

So close any programs that may be using it (via Ctrl+Alt+Delete if needs be) other than that, the general idea is to restart your computer which I will presume you will have done by the time of you reading this.

Only the skin you're using will slow the game down the rest won't, infact as long as you've got the cache in they shouldn't slow the game down at all as it's cached, so make sure you have "skin cache" ticked in the "display and sound" option "preferences".

I think the recommended Ram is 1GB with a 2.2Ghz dual core processor, so if you're well of these then that'll be why it's running slowly (although there have been reports of FM not utilising dual core processors properly, despite the existence of the threading option in preferences, which by the way you should turn on if you've got a dual core processor.

Also, since it's taking forever to delete (what do you expect with 2gb!) you could try using command prompt to remove those files (google it if you're unsure) as I would think that, that would be quicker.

Thanks rob, although I actually got the graphics to work so I didn't need to delete them.

I renamed the files they were in and they installed perfectly.

The skins only take up about 60mb of the 2gigs of files. I have the skin cache ticked and the always reload skins unticked but it is still extremely slow. So does this mean am I using the default skin? I tried to do the command prompt but when I try to delete the skins folder it comes up saying

'Volume in drive C has no label' and then says the volume c serial number.
but when i type 'dir' the skins folder is there.

I think it may be the backgrounds that are causing football manager to run very slow. Ive turned them off and it is running a lot faster now but i'm still gonna buy the new ram as the games so much better with all the pics!
I have a 2.41Ghz. Do you know whether it would be better to get a 1 gig or 2 gig ram? I just want this to work without problems so will be prepared to get 2 gigs but if there is no point as my computer wouldnt be able to handle it and a 1 gig will run football manager fast without any problems il get that.

So the only problem is how to remove the skins, but i spose that doesn't really matter if they are there, just as long as I don;t turn them on!

Thanks for all the help!

If its hard to explain just take a screenshot!

What might have happened is, the pictures haven't download or extracted properly, so they're just appearing all fuzzy, check the pictures within the folder are correct.

It may be a bug with a skin you're using, are you using the default or the main one? Also which facepack is it?

Also why can't you take a screenshot, its a pretty standard windows function.

I meant use print screen on your keyboard

Flex skin is pretty widely used, so I can't see it being that problem, there may be a problem with the facepacks, i'll try and check them out.

Hi, you need to download the skins. They'll usually be a Winrar file so extract them to:

Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/Skins.

Then, untick skin cache in preferences and tick always reload skin on confirm. Select your skin from the dropdown menu then press confirm, and you're away.
