How I Scout For Players In Football Manager
I prefer a hands-on approach, as opposed to letting the computer do all the legwork. A few pieces of advice:
Don’t send your scouts out to a region and figure they’ll find good players. Instead, look for players you think might be good and point your scouts at them.
Look for young players with high potential. They’re cheaper and will be more likely to accept less playing time.
Look for players on national teams. It’s not a guaranteed hit, but you’re much more likely to find good players on national teams than by choosing random teams to scout.
Pay attention to the Season Preview screen for any league you might be looking at. The preview will usually identify the players that are most valuable — and there are sometimes really good young players in the mix.
Look at the team information screen to find hot young prospects.
Make sure that your scouts fully scout the player before you make a decision. Don’t fall into the FOMO trap. You need to make sure that the player isn’t inconsistent, isn’t injury prone, and doesn’t have an irrational fear of big matches.
Make sure you take full advantage of the trial system. You can have up to 30 players in on a trial at once. That means you can essentially get 30 players scouted per turn, assuming you can bring them in on trial. There is absolutely no downside to bringing in trialists.
